Immediate care before reaching a veterinarian can save lives
When an animal is injured or sick, the first few minutes are critical. Quick and correct action can reduce pain, prevent infection, and sometimes save the animal’s life before professional medical help arrives.
Do not panic. Observe the animal from a safe distance. Look for visible injuries, bleeding, broken bones, or difficulty in breathing. A calm approach prevents further stress to the animal.
If bleeding is present, use a clean cloth or bandage and apply gentle pressure. Never pour chemicals or medicines directly into wounds. Continuous pressure helps reduce blood loss.
Injured animals can go into shock. Cover them with a blanket or cloth to maintain body temperature. Warmth helps stabilize breathing and heart rate.
Move the animal carefully using a box, basket, or stretcher. Avoid unnecessary movement of injured body parts. Transport them to the nearest veterinary hospital immediately.
